Welcome to the Drawing Board #15!

Happy September! Welcome to the start of a new semester: Class prep at the two colleges have kept me very busy this past August, but I feel focused, prepared, and excited for the new academic year! I know some of you are teachers and students, and I hope you feel the same!

I have new blog posts & podcasts that will be published very soon, as well as a number of new courses that start up within the next week and half! More below!

Blog posts are coming back! I want to thank those of you who have reached out asking about them. They're a lot of fun to put together, and I have a few in the works that I'll be able to publish in the next few weeks. Are there any topics you're interested in? New Classes for Fall 2025: Starting as Soon as Next Week!

Alongside my college courses that are starting up, I have three in-person New York Academy of Art CE courses that are open to the public, and one new focused online course through the Open Sketchbook!

Join me in-person Saturdays at the New York Academy of Art for my Strategic Drawing (AM) and Long Pose Drawing & Painting (PM) courses. They both start up this Saturday!

Join me Friday afternoons in-person at the Academy to study figure drawing from an anatomical perspective! It's a new course, and it'll be a lot of fun!

Lastly, join me online for a new skeletal anatomy course!
Anatomy is a passion of mine, and I find studying it virtually to be one of the best ways into the subject. As I said recently to one of my classes: I'll give you the superpower of x-ray vision, and you’ll move past guesswork and symbol-drawing, and instead build your figures from the inside out- every gesture grounded in structure, every pose alive with truth.

Weekly Sketch Starter: "Something Light & Delicate"

Inspired by one of our awesome Discord members, Marla, who requested something light and delicate for August's Still-Life Club images, I put together a series of plant-based photographs for us to work from. Here's one of them:
