Welcome to the Drawing Board #20!

Good morning! I hope you're enjoying your summer! I've been working the high school students out here in PA for PCA&D's pre-college summer classes, and it's been a real blast. I wanted to let you know about a few things coming up, lots happening, as usual: I have a new online weekend workshop coming up for the first weekend in August (there's a discount code below!), a quick update on the flat-file sale artworks being shipped out, and a revisiting of a listener-favorite podcast episode!

A New Online Weekend Workshop: Grisaille!

Join me for the first weekend in August for my final online workshop of the summer! We'll be taking a good look at "Grisaille": a grayscale-focused practice exploring tonality through the lens of art history. We'll build a work of art over the weekend of August 1st and 2nd, live over Zoom, that explores media handling, compositional development, tone, atmosphere, and texture. Participants are welcome to draw or paint based on their interests, and will receive "draw-over" feedback on their submitted images each day during the live sessions so all questions can be answered.

If you'd like to join us, but you have plans the days of the workshop and can't make it live, the recordings will be available to you after the meetings wrap, without expiration. So you can return to the materials as often as you'd like to support your growing creative practice.

You'll also find a "mixed-media" video demonstration, four "painting at home safely" checklists, and links to some great historic drawing & painting texts already available for you after registration- so you don't have to wait to engage with the concepts we'll be exploring in August!

To thank you for being a newsletter subscriber, enter the coupon code 25OFF at checkout for $25 off the workshop price! The discount code is valid until next Tuesday, 7/28! I hope you can join us.

Revisit a Podcast Favorite:

As I continue to edit future podcast episodes (what a process!), I want to highlight a listener favorite: The Pomodoro Technique! Watch it over on YouTube to see a drawing demo- or listen to the audio-only versions on your favorite podcast platform.

Flat-File Sale Art is Getting Packed Up This Week!

I'm not sure what was keeping my shipment of foamboard and shipping tubes, but they all finally arrived and I can now pack up the sold Flat-File Sale artwork safely- so please expect your tracking numbers via email soon!

This is a last call of Flat-File sale artworks if there is one you may have had your eye on, but the timing wasn't right before: I'm happy to honor the discounted sale price until the end of this week!

I'm off to go teach the highschoolers- I hope you have a great day! Thanks again for being here. I'm excited to share with you more podcast episodes and artist highlights in the near future. Don't forget: the 25OFF coupon code for the weekend Grisaille workshop expires next Tuesday! Let me know if you have any questions.

Happy drawing,
Evan

In between packing up the sold flat-file sale artworks, cleaning the studio, teaching the high school kids, and working my courses for the upcoming semester, I've been tackling thoughts about the art-making process and some fun strategies that I don't think get a lot of love very often. So this newsletter is about recalibration in the middle-game of an...

The sale has been very successful, and I'm thrilled so many artworks are escaping the flat file drawers and going out into the world to be appreciated. Today is the last day of the sale, and I wanted to highlight a few of the remaining artworks. Grisaille Painting Demo This demonstration was created for one of my online workshops focusing on "Grisaille". In person you can really see the...

Was this email forwarded to you? Subscribe here for more Welcome to the Drawing Board #19! At the end of the academic year I collect the various drawing pads, boxes of painting materials, and other teaching ephemera from my classrooms and bring it all back to the studio to sort through. My teaching year doesn't quite feel like it's over until I do that- and I've been putting it off this year because I had so much fun working with the students this last semester. Getting around to this sort of...
